Today is a day for Poetry to mourn. Seamus Heaney died today and I can't quite explain how sad that makes me. His was a voice that sat comfortably in this century and much of the later part of the previous that had very few to equal him, in warmth, purpose or intention. His words sat fat on the page like blackberries, suddenly alive and questioning like some verbalized badger, and always shifting true to the inner parts of their being; even if it took several turns to make the light go through the glass right or for the water rings to come to their center. Hello! And I return. Those who've known me for a while will probably remember my habit of vanishing for a period of time and then reappearing a few weeks to a few months later. This happens to be an addition to that quite unwanted history. My internet went nutty and unresponsive sometime in mid-December, which is why I haven't been able to do anything anywhere, here or there (there being everywhere else).
